Dye sublimation print on custom cut aluminum panel.
I have always been a big Bowie fan, especially as a teenager. His music spoke to me as a kid growing up in a small town in the industrial north of England. It spoke to me about something beyond the mundane day to day and bleak expectations of my environment.
After his death I was listening to a lot of his music and there is a track on the album Low called Sound and Vision that I love. These lines sprang to mind when I made this piece. They seem to be about forging your own identity in the world and of course, the color blue.
“Blue, Blue, Electric Blue.
That’s the color of my room, where I shall live.
Blue Blue.”
……..
In the Morphology series I am exploring the nature of transition and change through the medium of color and form. The limited palettes and simple forms of this series are an invitation to consider the nature of change. To embrace its inevitability and power and even learn to love and appreciate its many stages.

I make only one aluminum print from each digital artwork. Because my digital work has no “original” in the traditional sense, I think of the aluminum print as originals.
1/16" gauge aluminum panel mounted on a 3/4" aluminum frame. The print is also backed with 1/4" Sintra board (rigid PVC) for stability, which is inset 1 1/2" from the edge of the print.
Dye Sublimation printing (also known as metal print) is a process of infusing dyes into a sheet of pre-treated aluminum via heat transfer. The process once complete, is permanent and archival up to 65+ years, as tested by Wilhelm imaging research.
