Off to the Races No.1
Off to the races number 1 and 2 are cousins. They are related in that they have the same color palette, and structure, but in a different order. I was thinking a lot about harmony in music while making this series. In particular how musical notes belong together in scales and chords based on their precise wavelength (in a way their proportion) . I find it fascinating that changing something as simple as the progression of notes in a phrase, or adding a minor note or a 7th can produce a completely different emotional response.
These 2 pieces are literally the inverse of each other, No.1 progresses from blue to green in a reverse arc across the color spectrum while No. 2 is the inverse progression. One seems to draw me in in an introspective mood, the other feels more expansive and perhaps hopeful.
