Twist and Shout

This pallet of Magenta, Cyan, Green and Yellow feels so celebratory. It has a feeling of a child’s birthday party and the gyrating forms made me think of the Beatles song.
“Shake it up Baby now”
It’s such geeky fun to just play around with shapes. These pieces are all made by arranging the canvas into a grid of squares and then populating them with quarter circles so that there could be no open ends (ie. each quarter circle had to meet another quarter circle or an edge of the canvas). Then I layered the shapes to create a composition. I said it was geeky!
I did literally hundreds of sketches on pads of squared paper to explore the possible combinations until I found ones that felt right.
