Recession 1 and 2 are part of my Phase-ology series. In this series I am exploring the commonalities of music and visual art. In particular I am playing with rhythm, proportion and progression. The logic of the internal spacing of the piece is derived from a repeating and diminishing waveform, like an echo receding over time. Recession numbers 1 and 2 are sort of fraternal twins, painted at the same time with exactly the same proportions and color palette. The difference is that they are the opposite in terms of their transitions. Recession 1 moves from blue to purple and Recession 2 from purple to blue. I am fascinated by how two images which share exactly the same structure and colors can resonate so differently.
